Privacy Policy

Summary

Folio is a local-first notes app. For the first Mac App Store release, Folio stores notebooks, notes, attachments, saved versions, deleted-note recovery items, and preferences on your device in a folder you choose. Folio does not require an account for local note-taking.

The Mac App Store build does not collect note contents, analytics events, advertising identifiers, tracking identifiers, contacts, location, photos library data, microphone data, camera data, calendar data, or address book data for Folio.

Local Storage

Folio may store notes, attachments, saved versions, deleted-note recovery items, display-order metadata, local preferences, app-scoped security bookmarks on macOS, and local encrypted content for password-protected notes on your device.

You control where the Folio folder lives. If you place that folder inside iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Synology Drive, Google Drive, or another sync service, that provider may process those files under its own terms and privacy policy.

Network Use

The Mac App Store build is designed so local note-taking works offline. Folio does not include analytics, advertising, Folio-hosted sync, crash-reporting uploads, account signup, direct licence activation, or remote image URL fetching in this first Mac App Store build.

Folio can open support, privacy, and user-created note links in your default browser when you choose to open them. Those websites and your browser may receive normal web request information such as IP address, browser details, and request time.

Purchases

The first Mac App Store build is free for local note-taking and does not require a Folio licence key. If Folio adds paid Mac App Store features later, those digital purchases will be handled through Apple.

Password-Protected Notes

Password-protected notes are encrypted locally. Folio does not intentionally send note passwords or decrypted note contents to Folio servers. If you forget a note password, Folio may not be able to recover that content.

Support Requests

If you contact support, you may choose to send details such as your email address, app version, operating system, screenshots, crash details, logs, or example files. Do not send sensitive note contents unless support asks for a specific file and you are comfortable sharing it.

Retention And Deletion

You can delete local Folio data by deleting your selected Folio folder, local saved versions and recovery items inside that folder, and Folio preferences in your macOS application support folder.

Tracking And Advertising

Folio does not use third-party advertising SDKs and is not designed to track users across apps or websites.

Changes

We may update this policy when Folio changes. The effective date at the top will show the latest version.
